I have about 2 days left of work left on this and I’ll be done- finally! Then I’ll coat it and let it sit for about 3-4 days then pack her up for shipping..

Reworking the face and hair … I’m happier once I start adding the details, I’m still adjusting to doing portraits by request, it’s different when the person you’re painting wants the painting certain way, opposed to just painting a portrait on my own, like the John Waters piece.

Geisha Hello Kitty is finished for now. The swirls are a grey wash and will fade to be much lighter, next month: Colour!

My Geisha Hello Kitty outline that I worked on last night. There will be some nice Japanese waves/swirls behind her and a few cherry blossoms and of course, a nice print on her kimono. I know HK is everywhere you look now, but having grown up in the 70’s, she wasn’t. It was always a special treat to get on the Archer bus, go to Chinatown and spend what little extra money I had to get a an uber cute Hello kitty pen, sticker book or a stationary set. To me, HK was a part of my childhood that was innocent and “mine”. She represented beauty, sweetness, and adventure . It was an escape from my world that wasn’t so sweet or innocent. That is why I will always love my Hello Kitty no matter how much she is over-marketed.
